Updated...

Wednesday (28/4/2010)
Today i collected the second document which is the pitures of the oil rig. From that, we manage to highlight the place/ equipment needed to change or update during the task. Later, i also received a diagram of the control system where they have highlighted on where and when needed to change. Later in the afternoon, I was given a handout on rotating equipmet because i could not understand anything about yesterday's meeting.

Tuesday (27/4/2010)
I started creating a file by following the previous files. The first document i received was the elevation layout for the oil rig. On this layout, the places where the company are given the task are marked and later filed for references. After that, the 3 years planning for the completion of the task are also put into the file. Later, i accompanied my supervisor to a meeting with the client from Shell. They were discussing about the rotating equipments that were included in the task.

Monday (26/4/2010)
Was not a good day. I was ill and was on emergency leave. Stayed at home and rested.

Friday (23/4/2010)
Today, I was given the task to compile the reports from different discipline such as electrical, structural, piping, mechanical and instrument engineering. My supervisor explained to me on how to compile and start a new filing according to the company's standard. I was also advised on how to keep the file updated.

Thursday (22/4/2010)
In the morning, i helped my supervisor to finish some write-up for Shell's oil platform project. While doing this, i was able to see the platform's elevation layout. I also grouped the plans and system according to the planner given. Later, I followed my supervisor around to get the major plans done and grouped. I was able to see how management skills were put into use.

Wednesday ( 21/4/2010 )
Today, i wrote some short notes on compressors and read the hand outs given by my supervisor as he was busy with his clients. Later in the afternoon, I followed my supervisor around to see how a manager get things done by persuasion. He also wanted to check if things are up-to-date and everything is going according to plan.

busy days!!

Tuesday (20th April 2010)
First thing i came to the office, i was taken to meet the Shell's mechanical engineer and structural engineer. I saw the project they have to complete and it look rather fun and massive. Its was about providing compressors and glycol regeneration plant for an oil platform. After that, i was brought around the office to see how the documents were prepared to meet the vendors. I was able to see the isometric view of the compressor layout and assembly and also the platform's layout. There was a mistake in the document so that's why we were running around to get it done before the meeting. After lunch, I was given a small talk to end the last week's topic on pumps. This time it was about the control systems such as valve, bypass, on/off system and variable speed control. From that, it looks like the best would be variable speed control. He also briefed us about the economics on using different control systems.

Monday (19th April 2010)
I received my second book. This book is a comprehensive book about compressors. It informs on how it works, layouts, control systems, and safety measures. Then i was given my assignment which is to do a write up on compressors. It has to be presentable and clear to the point. So i spend my whole day analyzing it while my supervisor was busy running around as his clients were around today.

Friday ( 16th April 2010)
I attended a meeting with the project manager's team. While i was there, i manage to learn how to deal and write a proper document for the vendors. They also discussed about the plan and schedule the time to get the documents from the vendors. After all that, they talked about efficient ways to store and review the documents because it is hard to do that at present time with too many formalities. As usual i was confused and lost with the jargons used. Then after the meeting, my supervisor gave me a list of important jargons they usually use during a meeting.

updating....

Thursday (15th April 2010)
This morning, we had a talk on NPSH which is net positive suction head. It was something i did in uni before but weren't exposed to the real world about this. I was asked to define the meaning of NPSH and cavitation verbally. First time doing it but manage to get a nod from my supervisor. Then he explained about how to get rid of cavitation by messing around with the suction pressure and vapor pressure. After that i followed my supervisor and his assistant to meet their project planner. There, i saw how the budget is cut, stopped or continue running. Its is mostly calculated under man hours. It was quite confusing because of the jargons being used so i just sat there and watch and asked questions after questions.

Wednesday (14th April 2010)
Today my supervisor included me into one of many important meetings so far. This meeting is about LESSONS LEARNT FROM PREVIOUS PROJECTS. During the meeting, i met many other project managers and the chief of manager also. The meeting went on for about one hour and a half. It was a good meeting though cause the managers can learn mistakes done can rectify them, brainstorm for a new alternative method in managing projects and also lunch was served during meeting. After the meeting, my supervisor had a talk with me and his assistant who was a new guy. He asked us who and what i observed in the meeting. I told him about the managers who were quiet and some were dominating. It was a good experience. Just after 2 weeks i've already attended 2 major meetings.

Internship Days .....

I'm sorry for the late update to my blog as i have been busy travelling after my finals and with the first week of Internship. I will update them starting from today.....

Tuesday (13th April 2010)
We had a 2nd session on pump talks and this time it was about pump graphs, specifications and also configurations in pumps whether in series or parallel. Was a little confuse and am still eager to find out what happens if 2 pumps were wrongly fitted together. Later in the evening, Mr Michael asked me to follow him and his assistant for a meeting to confirm if his project is running on course and his reports. It was very interesting because there were some humor and tense moment during the meeting. From this i've seen many different type of people in a meeting. Some are quiet, some will doze off, some will be superior and some will have a sense of humor.

Monday (12th April 2010)
The weekend was over and it was back to my routine days. Just as the day started, the project manager called his team into the meeting room and had a in depth talk session on pumps such as functions, looks, and calculation and parameters that determines a pump.

Friday (9th April 2010)
I have to read all about the notes my supervisor gave because he was on leave. I had to spend 4 hours reading and write a brief note on how pumps works, its NPSH and how does pumps works in series and parallel and also the economics and control systems of a pump. It was rather interesting because i found out many things beside what i learned in Thermodynamics and also Fluids.

Thursday (8th April 2010)
My supervisor was busy today as he has to chase deadlines for his upcoming project of putting 2 compressors on a 2 level platform. Sounds confusing? Yes i know. So the whole morning was spent doing some reading on compressors and how to read the performance and surging graphs. Then later after lunch time, Mr. Michael was a little free and talked to me about the next big thing, PUMPS. I got another set of handout about Pumps and also Project Management. The project management book was kinda nice.

Wednesday (7th April 2010)
My supervisor handed me some of his old handouts about crude oil processing on the oil rig and also on compressors. He later talked to me about Oil Producing and the equipment involved. About the compressors, I was given a task to write on how much i understand about compressors and the controls that is used for safety. After reading, I never knew the flow could flow backwards into the compressor (surge) and cause a big hazard. Manage to complete the task and Mr. Michael seemed pleased. I hope.

Tuesday (6th April 2010)
Today, i've been introduced to the industry of designing. Especially under mechanical. Mr. Michael being the manager told me stories and experience on his first day, accidents, designing, and safety precautions taken by each disciplines. Then he told me what his team does, design Compressors.

Monday (5ht April 2010)
Finally arrived at Sunway Tower to begin my journey. The first 4 hours was used for induction. The safety warden of Ranhill WorleyParsons thought us what to do during fire and also introduced us to the Company's organization.

After lunch, I was brought up to the 15th floor to meet my Supervisor, Mr. Michael Woo. Then, Mr. Michael brought me around the floor to meet his team of engineers. He later told me he was the Project Manager on this floor. After a light conversation, he gave me a talk on safety precautions from Shell and wants me to abide by it. It was a nice first day.

Sunday (4th April 2010)
I have been busy after finals and finally had the time to sleep and wake up early to catch a train to dang wangi for my Internship Program in Ranhill WorleyParsons.
